Top 10 Myth’s of Seating

  1. “Leather is always better”.  Although leather can make for a very comfortable seat, more often than not the leather is very cheap and or isn’t real leather.  There are plenty of modern fabrics and textiles that are either equal to or better than a typical leather seat. This isn’t to say that leather and even fake leather is bad, but that other options are just a comfortable.
  2. “Task chairs are all the same” – Like all things there is a range in quality and therefore comfort in task chairs.
  3. “Cheap means bad” – A Cheap chair doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be uncomfortable. There are plenty of well built cheap chairs.
  4. “All chairs follow the same mold” – Some chairs are simply designed to look good, others to feel good, and some to look and feel good. It’s important to know what your needs are. If you’re sitting at a desk all day you should purchase a chair designed for lasting comfort and ergonomics. If only seated for a few hours design and elegance may be more your concern. The important thing to remember is that all chairs do not fit all backs.
  5. “Chair arms aren’t important” - Many customers state that they don’t need chair arms and therefore ask to not be charged for them.  Simply put, in order to properly sit and type the clients arms should fall on chair arms and then to the keyboard on a keyboard arm.
  6. “Spending more is a waste” - In many cases spending more can mean a more comfortable seat. However as stated above it doesn’t necessarily follow that spending more will mean a better chair. Do some research, and look at the images provided.
  7. “Lumbar support is a scam” – Sit in a chair with one and see how your back feels. It’s effect on comfort is exponential.
  8. “Caster’s don’t really matter” – Try using a soft floor caster on a hard floor, or a hard floor caster on a soft floor….not fun.
  9. “Heavy padding is better” – Many see, have seen, or have sat in a heavily padded chair and believe that heavy padding means a better form to the body. In actuality mesh seating is usually far better suited to mold to a customer’s body.  
  10.  “Popularity is a rule for quality” - Many of the top selling chairs are sold because they represent the needs of a large corporation, not of what its employees really need.
