Ares Capital expects this debt to be paid off in a matter of a few years, via Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws that stipulate they don't have to pay off several hundred million of said debt. While A Ball of Wax may not be a financial institution, our knowledge of our own industry is quite sound. Most furniture today is shipped from abroad aboard such cargo vessels as the ones recently hijacked. Although the majority of these ships come through shipping lanes from China some do in fact come from the east around the horn of Africa. Although the product itself is worthless to the pirates, it and the ship hold significant value with the manufacturer and freight company and can therefore be ransomed. As hijackings increase insurance will and has increased as well. Freight companies are forced to charge more per container to make up for the added costs. The furniture manufacturers would normally charge more for their furniture but here is where timing comes into play. Due to the current economic situation the manufacturers know that they can not charge more and still sell product. Most manufacturers are already losing money and are therefore being hit on both fronts. More than likely from what we can tell, the manufacturer's that currently produce furniture in the middle east will stop.

HON lays off 80 Employees.

Roughly 80 Employees of the HON furniture facility have been laid off. The merchandise.......furniture. That's right, FURNITURE. Gold, Silver, Platinum, and Jewels apparently weren't worth enough to try and steal so the A-team of London's bandits decided to pull a fast one on the police and steal a trucks worth of furniture. Total score....a few thousand dollars. The thieves were caught when the police searched their home on suspicion of the crime. Yes, the crooks thought it was a good idea to use the furniture in their own home instead of selling it. Genius.

Check out the whole story HERE.

Chair Sells For 19 Million Pounds!

Last week a designer leather chair sold at auction for 19 Million Pounds....6 times what it was estimated to go for. Why on earth anyone would pay 3 million pounds for a chair is unbelievable, but 19 million is ludicrous. The 'Dragons' chair was formerly owned by renowned designer Yves Saint Laurent and was designed by Eileen Gray. Fortunately for our customers we do not offer any chairs that cost in the millions of dollars....sorry. Instead of simply placing their money in a hole in the floor of their closet they are looking towards professional safes for financial security. Sales are up close to 60% across the country and it seems they will continue to go up as long as the economy declines and banks continue to fail. We thought we should therefore take the time to reassure our clients that our Sentry Safes are of top quality. There are some things to remember when buying a safe. Weight doesn't always denote quality. The specific types of steel used in construction should be noted. Whether it's the outer construction, or a drill resistant steel plate imbedded within the safe block, all should be made of top materials.

Thanks,

Boy killed by Exploding Chair!

Ok, So I'm sure most of you have seen the recent story surrounding the death of a 14 year old boy after the chair he was sitting on exploded. (Not Fun) The fact is that in all of our "Chair Dealings" we've never heard of a chair exploding. The fact is that the chair cylinder (The part of the chair that goes up and down) is filled with a gas who's properties allow for great amounts of pressure while being able to still hold it's state. (Not blow up!) We haven't found any exact details on the case but we can almost guarantee that some fowl play is at hand. More than likely someone at the factory filled the cylinder with something other than the typical gas used. So don't fear the office task chair or the home office chair.... and please don't stop buying our products because they're all safe. No explosion prone products sold at A Ball of Wax.com.
